Kristen Haglund Wants in Your In-Box My latest side project is the Bikini Day blog, which on-line here . I have a lot of blog posts that involve women in a bikini or in lingerie and there's potential for a lot more of them. I decided to move all of them to a separate site. I started the site with a few of my older bikini posts. I will add a new one every day. (Hence the name, Bikini Day.) This enables me to keep the bikini and lingerie stuff around without it getting in the way of all of my other posts. Women in bikinis do tend to grab lots of attention and it sort dominates my blog as a result. As an added bonus, this also enables me to experiment with a few things that I may or may not incorporate in this blog or my neighborhood one . Kirsten Haglund's Outfit is 65 Years Old Today is the 65th anniversary of the introduction of bikini by French engineer Louis Reard . In honor of this distinct anniversary, I thought about posting a photo of a 65 year old woman in a bikini. Or maybe a 65 year old man chasing a young woman in a bikini. However, it suddenly occurred to me that it would be much better to simply post a photo of Miss America 2008  Kirsten Haglund  in a bikini instead. You're welcome, internet.

Some rather strange things have come out of Germany, not the least of which is David Hasselhof's  popularity. Today, however, we something that is both strange and wonderful from Germany. Stare and Live Longer Researchers in Frankfurt, Germany have concluded that staring at women's breasts actually extends a man's lifespan by about five years. Their research is published in the New England Journal of Medicine . Unfortunately, they did not opine on whether or the breasts in question belong to their respective wives or some other random female. I suspect this study will prompt some curious discussions between couples. In the meantime, I'm downloading all of the photos I can of Jessica Alba , Katherine Hiegl ,  Paris Hilton ,  Sienna Miller ,  Rachel Nichols , and Hayden Panettierre . Heck, I might even throw a little Kirsten Haglund or Rima Fakih into the mix as well.

Kristen Haglund Needs My Advice I found an article on-line recently from The Daily Mail . It makes the argument that beautiful women are often much happier when they are involved with plain looking guys than they would be if with they were similarly involved with a more attractive hunk of a man. This article was based on research that was conducted at the University of Tennessee and later published in the Journal of Family Psychology . Researchers studied the attractiveness of various couples and then cross-referenced it with surveys that each couple completed in which they rated their own marital happiness. The results were quite conclusive. Women who were attractive, but married to plain-looking guys, reported having a marriage that was much happier and more full-filling than similarly attractive women who were married to attractive men. The Detroit area has produced two major beauty queens in recent years. First, there was Miss America 2008  Kirsten Haglund  of Farmington Hills. She was recently followed by Rima Fakih , Miss USA 2010, from Dearborn. With this many beauty queens in the Detroit area, I can't help but wonder how they stack up against one another. In particular, I find myself wondering which one of them would win a wrestling match. Would Kirsten Haglund emerge from the ring victorious or would it be Rima Fakih? I know that I'm probably a pervert for even contemplating this. Regardless, these are the thoughts that occupy my mind on a Saturday afternoon. Kirsten Haglund and Rima Fakih are nothing if not evenly matched. Both of them are 5'8" tall, according to their respective Wikipedia pages. Their weight and arm length are almost identical. The year is almost over. 2008 in Detroit was the kind of year that someone was thinking of when they came up with the curse, "May you live in interesting times." Some folks in this town are dwelling on the negative or even planning a move to Dubai. As for me, I take a more balanced outlook towards things. With that in mind, I present a look back at 2008 in my hometown. The Detroit Lions are the worst team in NFL history. However, the Detroit Red Wings won yet another Stanly Cup this year. The Detroit Tigers turned in a respectable performance. The Detroit Pistons came this close to another NBA Championship. Kwame Kilpatrick is in jail, but that saga is over. Now Detroiters get to look at everyone in Illinois and know that they're dealing with things that are much worse. The Detroit Public Schools are broke. Miss America Kirsten Haglund has been filling in for a lot of prominent leaders as of late. First, she threw out the first pitch on Opening Day for the Detroit Tigers. That duty would normally be done by Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick , but he's been a little busy as of late with the whole text message scandal and being under indictment. It also turns out that will be filling in for Governor Jennifer M. Granholm at the Tulip Festival in Holland, Michigan . Governor Granholm is reportedly embarking on a trade mission and the schedule for that will conflict with the Tulip Festival. This makes two instances in less than a month where Kirsten Haglund substituted for someone at a high-profile event. I wonder: what will she do next? Well, there is the fact Pope Benedict XVI has said that he won't be available to attend the White House dinner that President George W. Bush is holding in his honor this week. Hmm.... Kirsten Haglund of Farmington Hills, Michigan was named Miss America 2008 this past weekend. I heartily congratulate her. It's always great to see a fellow Detroiter accomplish something cool on the national stage. As proud as I am of my neighbor, I can't help but thinking that, way back in the 1960s, the Miss America pageant was targeted for protests by feminists who believed it was symbolic of everything that they were opposed to. It was after those protests that the pageant's television rating began to fall - from almost 2/3 of the American public tuning in to its current state where the show isn't even on any of the major television networks. While feminists like Robin Morgan , who organized the first protest of the Miss America pageant, might be pleased with the pageant's declining status, I can't help but feel that we as a society have lost something.
