Happy Halloween

I made this documentary to show the world what life is like in Casa de Nemecek on All Hallow's Eve.  I hope you like it. Happy Halloween, everyone!

I Love This Video

I found a truly amazing short film on-line that I want to share with everyone.  My first time watching this, I loved the story - simple but incredibly funny.  I then watched it again, thought about what it must have taken to produce this and amazed by it. I don't want to tell too much more, except to give a cautionary warning that it's PG-13 material.  With that in mind, I give you Whose Inside My Baby , written, directed and edited by Mark Jackson . Excellent! Brunette complete strip - kewego A gorgeous brunette slams the door in her date's face, before stripping completely- litterally! Excellent short movie by Mark Jackson. Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

Image
It's getting cold. Winter, unfortunately, will soon be here. Once upon a time, I used to believe that the best thing about winter was Christmas. I'm still a fan of Christmas, but these days I'm an even bigger fan of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. It's like Christmas, with extra cleavage. The show will return to New York for the first time in four years - Tuesday, December 1 on CBS.  I can't believe that it's only 37 days away. Paris Hilton Says She's Secretly Smart

Image
Paris Hilton recently told OK! Magazine that she is secretly smart. She insists that her whole "dumb blonde" act is just that - an act. I've long suspected that Paris Hilton is a lot smarter than she seems in public. I don't think anyone can be that dumb and still function in modern society. Besides, many of the things that she says and does frequently seem like they are calculated for media impact. For Paris Hilton to do such a thing - and translate that celebrity buzz into an industry with her books, music, et cetera - requires a level of cognitive function well beyond what she normally displays. I just wish that Paris Hilton would show her more intellectual side in public. I would love to see Paris Hilton photographed reading a book - an actual work of literature; not a sophomoric piece of fluff. I would love to see Paris Hilton at a film festival - enjoying some of the really good, artistic films that unfortunately never go very far in the modern m...

RIP Soupy Sales

The legendary comedian and one of the finest human beings to ever work in television in Detroit, Soupy Sales , passed away yesterday.  He was 83 years old. Soupy Sales not only personified an era of television in Detroit, he consistently demonstrated the true power of television as a medium.  His show made everyone who watched it feel not only entertained, but a part of something much larger than themselves. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of many Detroiters, even those who - like myself - weren't even born until long after Soupy Sales left the airwaves.  His jokes were funny enough that people were still retelling them and laughing at them decades later. Luckily, thanks to the miracle of YouTube, Soupy Sales is still available to children young and old "in Living Black and White." Soupy Sales will be missed. If you'll excuse me, I'm off to have a slice of pie in his honor.

Detroit Shock are Moving to Tulsa

The Detroit Shock are reportedly about to move to Tulsa, Oklahoma. I can't say that I really blame them. In a town that has four other professional sports teams already - plus Michigan and Michigan State sports teams - it has been hard for them to generate the attendance that they need. Of course, the saddest part all of this is that the Detroit Lions are staying. Source: Detroit Shock are moving to Tulsa | Detroit Shock - MLive.com - - MLive.com Shared via AddThis

Sanity Preferred: Roo the Day

Image
I found something that I almost couldn't believe on the Sanity Preferred blog - the rise of militant kangaroos. This, my friends, is troubling on so many different levels. Sanity Preferred: Roo the Day Shared via AddThis

Happy Sweetest Day

Image
I've always regarded Sweetest Day is an artificial holiday of no particular significance.  After all, the occasion was started in 1922 by a group of candy manufacturers in Cleveland as part of an effort to sell more candy.  The idea of a holiday tied so closely to commerce simply seemed wrong to me.  As a result, whenever I was dating someone, I always cringed a bit when this holiday rolled around. Of course, this changed the other day. I learned that my parents got engaged 42 years ago today. Suddenly, Sweetest Day doesn't seem so artificial to me. The fact that Sweetest Day started as a thinly veiled commercial undertaking is now tempered, at least in my mind, by the knowledge that there is something significant behind it - even if it's only significant to my parents and to every other couple with a Sweetest Day story behind them. With that in mind, I'd simply like to say, "Happy Sweetest Day everyone!"

Internet outguns TV in U.K. ad fight

It has finally happened - at least in the UK. The internet has outpaced television for advertising revenue. Internet outguns TV in U.K. ad fight Posted using ShareThis

The World Is Your Dressing Room

Gina Valo wrote a great blog post about dating on The Second Fiddle . She compares dating to shopping for jeans. My advice? Treat the world as your dressing room . If something doesn't fit, be polite and put it back on the rack in one piece for someone else to find. It's okay to take something home to try it on in front of your own mirror, but try not to put anything on hold unless there's really a chance you'll come back for it. When you find something worth keeping, treat it well so it lasts forever, and always, always save your receipt. Gina Valo, The Second Fiddle , September 2009 I recommend reading the whole article .

Tiger Stadium Is No More

Tiger Stadium died at 9:24 a.m. this morning when the last remaining piece of it finally fell. Of course, now that Tiger Stadium is down, I'm sure George Jackson will announce his fully-funded plan to do something productive with the site; something that will contribute to the neighborhood and create jobs for Detroiters. You know, the sort of thing that would've happened if he hadn't been allowed to block the Old Tiger Stadium Conservancy from proceeding with their plan. I'm sure he'll present it to us any day now.

Keira Knightley Set for Fair Role

Image
It looks like Keira Knightley is going to beat out Anne Hathaway and Scarlett Johansson for the chance to play Eliza Doolittle in an upcoming adaptation of My Fair Lady . All I have to say is, thank you gods of cinema. Thank you. I adore Anne Hathaway. I loved her in The Devil Wears Prada - a role that I don't think any other actress could have pulled off better. I also don't have nothing against Scarlett Johansson. I mean, how could anyone have anything against a beautiful woman with an extensive comic book collection ? However, I can't help but feel that Keira Knightley was simply born to play roles like this one. There is something about the way that Keira Knightley carries herself and her general presence that makes her particularly believable in a rags to riches story like My Fair Lady . I look forward to seeing Keira Knightley on the big screen as Eliza Doolittle.

A Modest Proposal

Image
After the disappointing loss that the Detroit Lions suffered yesterday at the hands of the New Orleans Ain'ts, I have a modest proposal to offer William Clay Ford . It is clear, sir, that your Detroit Lions are not up to playing in the National Football League. Rather than continuing on this 52 year long rebuilding trend, I believe it would be much more appropriate to select randomly a different high school team each week to play in their stead. This, of course, will give high school athletes in Detroit the kind of playing experience that most teenagers in America only dream of having. It would also save you a few million in player and coaching salaries that are unwarranted anyway. As for the kind of track records that high school athletes would earn competing against the other teams in the NFL, one only has to ask: how much worse could it possibly get ? Please, Mr. Ford. Think of the children. Replace the Detroit Lions with some of Detroit's talented high school athletes...

The Cartoon That Says It All

When it comes to President Barack Obama's speech to school children from earlier this week, I believe this cartoon says it all.

Backhanded Compliments

Image
I've been thinking about backhanded compliments a lot as of late. They're wonderful little things that enable one to disguise an insult. One of my favorite comedians, W.C. Fields , was famous for them. The most glaring example that I came across recently was when someone referred to a certain person as "a rock star - like Example A, Example B or Example C." Of course, in this instance, each of the three examples were a musician who hadn't had a commercial or critical success in more than a decade. Sometimes a backhanded compliment can come from what is not said rather than by what is said. For example, I read two reviews of a certain restaurant recently. Both reviews were written by the same author and neither of them included a single word to describe the what the food actually tastes like. Since restaurant reviews generally include lengthy descriptions of the food and what it tastes like, such an omission is nothing if not telling. Since the rest of thes...

Happy Birthday!

The Internet began 40 years ago today when a simple batch of data was exchanged between two computers on the campus of UCLA. Their intention was to allow computers to share vital data for research purposes. Of course, I think we all know what the Internet's real reason for existing today is. Happy birthday, Internet! Here's to many more decades of delivering porn to ordinary people around the globe.

Leah Andreone - Never Stop Trying

I used one of Leah Andreone's songs in a short film of mine a couple of years ago. I've always been a fan of hers. Well, Leah Andreone has a new CD that is out today. It's called Avalanche and it's really cool. I'm especially fond of one of the songs on it, "Never Stop Trying". I found the video for it on-line. According to a note on Leah Andreone's Facebook page, this was shot in one day. They did it guerrilla-style with a simple flip cam. The results, in my opinion, are very impressive. Never Stop Trying from leah andreone on Vimeo . You can find Avalanche by Leah Andreone, as well as her other works, on iTunes . I highly recommend them.

Remaking Downtown

Image
George Jackson and his crew are busy remaking downtown Detroit. The impressive news is that their efforts have caught the attention of several national media outlets and commentators. Here is Ziggy's take on Mr. Jackson's job performance over the past 7 years. We are so lucky to have them on the job.

Roswell Chronicles

Image
My first draft of The Roswell Chronicles is done. This, of course, is my sci-fi project about a woman who is sworn to protect a family secret against both a greedy corporation and some seriously pissed off aliens. I will let the first draft digest for a few days. Now comes the really fun part of the process - my second and third drafts.

Heidi Pratt at Miss Universe

The fact that Donald Trump owns the Miss Universe pageant has never been more obvious than it was this past week. No one else - for better or worse - would have scheduled Heidi Pratt to do such a provocative pseudo-strip tease during the middle of this pageant. This is definitely one way to boost the show's ratings.
