Premiere of "The Avengers" at the Tribeca Film Festival

Image
The Avengers  had a special showing at the Tribeca Film Festival. I was lucky enough to get video from this event from the producers. I'm so excited to be able to see The Avengers  in theaters this coming Friday.

Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes Cross Universes

Image
Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes , issue 1 IDW Publishing and DC Comics are launching a crossover comic book series that will feature the cast of the original Star Trek  television series and The Legion of Super Heroes . This series is supposed to last for six monthly issues, with the first issue available in comic book stores now. I usually cringe at the mention of a crossover. However, the mix of characters in those two story universes gives this one some serious potential. In the first issue, the original Starship Enterprise crew beam down to a planet, only to discover that it isn't the right destination or time period. Meanwhile, a group of "Great Darkness Saga" Legionnaires travel to the same planet; discovering that they aren't in the right place or time either. The meeting of these two groups is a cliche. However, the interplay and witty banter that takes place between the Star Trek  and Legion of Super-Heroes characters makes it worthwhile. ...

More Supergirl Porn

Image
According to those fun loving, party animals at Google Analytics, an average of one person every day finds my blog as a result of a search for "Supergirl porn". It's all a result of this post on Supergirl from last summer. Anyway, there is no actual porn on my blog (Supergirl or otherwise). However, for the benefit of those who do find this blog as a result of such as search, as well as for the general amusement of everyone else, give you this image below. Kudos, by the way, go out to Dr. Zaius  of the Zaius Nation Blog for finding this gem. I also found his blog via Google.

Reflections on the Royal Wedding

It's official. Prince William and Kate Middleton are now husband and wife. They will be henceforth the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Her dress, by the way, looked spectacular this morning. I believe that is the most important part of any wedding. Our British friends will likely spend the next several days in the midst of an incredible party that, quite frankly, leaves a lot of Americans a bit confused. We rejected the idea of a monarchy long ago, preferring instead to base our culture around Justin Bieber and an assortment of reality television stars. I'm quite certain this justifies all of the sacrifices that our Founding Fathers made in separating this nation from Great Britain more than two centuries ago. In the meantime, we have a space shuttle launch in a few hours. Plus, the High Holy of Geek Holidays (a.k.a. Free Comic Book Day ) is a mere eight days away.

Super Harmony

Image
I hate eHarmony. It's highly overrated, in my opinion. I think that's why I love the Super Harmony spoof of it so much. Super Harmony is definitely the best dating site around.

Barack Obama and Sarah Palin

Image
Former Governor Sarah Palin and President Barack Obama will make a special appearance in the Archie comic books. They will appear jointly in issues 616 and 617 - and I already have a special order in for both of those issues. It'll be interesting to see how people react to these two on the cover of one of the oldest comics around. The first issue hits stands tomorrow, December 22. The second one will arrive in January.

My Bucket List

Image
The guys at Guyism.com came up with their ultimate bucket list . This is 50 things that every guy should aspire to do before he slips this mortal coil. I'm proud to say that I've already done a couple of them. Now I just have to work on the remainder. Well, that and rebuild my collection of G.I. Joe comic books.

Women in Comic Book Stores

Image
Once upon a time, as in twenty years ago, women were about as common in a comic book store as a bartender at a Baptist convention. Comic book stores and comic conventions were truly a Vagina Free Zone. Slowly, however, that has changed. First, there were those who showed up at comic book stores or conventions because their boyfriend wanted to go. Then, there were those who were literally paid to show up. These were the attractive models who made appearances in an effort to promote some new comic, video game, or whatever. Eventually, the women of America discovered that comic books have a certain appeal to them. I think a fair number, at least in earlier days of the mid-1990s, were ones who entered a comic book store or convention for their first time for one of the two reasons above and discovered that they like them. They started showing up even without a boyfriend or the promise of a paycheck. Over the past dozen or so years, the number of women that I see in these places has...

Supergirl Looks Weird

Image
Supergirl Looks Weird I was browsing through my local comic bookstore the other day. I found the current issue of Supergirl . (Yes, that is my sexy thumb in the lower right hand corner of the photo at left.) In my opinion, there's just something wrong about the way they drew her face for this issue. Her chin is inhumanly narrow. Her cheeks are also rather chubby in this drawing. The combination of those two things just makes her face look totally wrong. This almost like an anime version of  Supergirl - except, of course, for the fact that she long, flowing blonde hair, small eyes, and a rather modest bust. Those things almost never happen in the realm of anime, but I digress. So, yes. I have to conclude Supergirl simply look weird this month. I suppose I could spend time worrying about this. I'm sure that the folks at DC Comics are just dying to know my opinions of their cover art. Supergirl: Porn Star Version Or, in lieu of that, I suppose I could just go ba...

Yo Joe!

Image
I love G.I. Joe. As a kid growing up in the 1970s, I had one of the original G.I. Joe action figures. In the 7th grade, I was excited to find the G.I Joe comic book series. I continued to collect them throughout high school and liked the television series a lot. (The comic books were still better, in my opinion, because their plots always seemed a bit more complex.) When I found out that they were bringing G.I. Joe to the big screen , I knew that I had to go see it. This weekend, I did just that. Overall, I liked G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra a lot. The writers made a few changes in the G.I. Joe storyline. Most of the changes, I totally understood and had no problem accepting. For example, in the comic books, several of the original characters were described as being Vietnam veterans. That worked 27 years ago when the comic books first came out. However, it would make these characters too old to be front line troops in a contemporary story. Also, in the comic books...
