Two Great Things

Image
I blogged before about how photos of Melissa Theuriau  have been showing up in ads all over the internet. It's interesting, though, some of the combinations that I've seen. This one is my favorite. It's a photo that Hope Dworaczyk  posted to Twitter, which automatically overlays an ad on it. And the add features none other than Melissa Theuriau. Hope Dworaczyk and Melissa Theuriau - even if one of them is a pirated image that some fly by night web site is using for it's promotions, there's still something magical about that combination.

Ads with Melissa Theuriau

Image
I've been seeing Melissa Theuriau's  face in a lot of advertisements as of late. Normally, I would be thrilled by this. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Melissa Theuriau on a regular basis? The thing is, these ads aren't ones that use licensed photographs of her. There are literally hundreds of screen grabs of Melissa Theuriau available on-line from her time as an anchor on M6 , which is a French cable network. One of ads in question is above. It clearly uses one of the screen grabs of Melissa Theuriau that I also found on-line. Rather than license these images, or hire a model and photographer so they can create their images, these companies simply grab some of these other images. One would presume that a network in France is less likely than others to notice copyright infringement for ads that are primarily viewed in North America. However, one has to wonder about the credibility of companies that would steal content like this.

Solar Bra Means Heart-Felt Conservation

Image
I have always been fascinated by women's breasts. From the modest cleavage of Keira Knightley or Kristen Bell to the more ample endowment of Mélissa Theuriau or Jessica Alba , there's just something about them that attracts my attention. I suppose that's why, when I heard about the new solar bra that was unveiled in Tokyo, I couldn't help but pay attention to it. This bra is embedded with solar panels that will actually generate electricity as they are exposed to sun light. The most obvious downside to this is that those solar panels won't work when they're covered by other articles of clothing. As a result, this is really more one of those products that is intended to prompt discussion about renewable energy and seeing potential in every day things than an actual source of electrical energy. Of course, it does also demonstrate the power of cleavage.

Number 1 with Wiggles

Image
Earlier this week, I discovered that if one types " dating in your 30s " into Google's search engine then I come up as one of the top searches. In fact, as of this morning, this site ranks at number 4 out of approximately 939,000 search returns. Of course, the really interesting discovery in the whole thing came this morning. Drum roll, please. Google also ranks me as number 1 when the search terms are "Jello wrestling Detroit". I swear, I almost fell out of my chair from laughing so hard when I saw that for the first time. I started this blog as simply a way to share my thoughts on a whole multitude of issues. Plus, it's nice that friends and family who no longer live in the Detroit area have a convenient way of keeping up with my life that doesn't involve me telling the exact same stories over and over again. But this Jello wrestling thing really floors me. It also makes me wonder what would happen if I were to organize a Jello wrestling match (here...

Happy Birthday, Melissa

Today is Melissa Theuriau's 29th birthday. On the (very) remote chance that she ever finds her way to this blog, I wish you on the best on your birthday! You make me wish I paid more attention in French class.

Melissa @ 1731 Seminole

Image
I wondered, in a post last week, what would happen if I included a reference to both Melissa Theuriau and 1731 Seminole in one post since those were the two most common keywords to be used when people found this blog in one of the various internet search engines. I even went so far as to wonder what would happen if I started the rumor that Melissa Theuriau was now living in 1731 Seminole or, better yet, that she was starring in a porn that was being filmed at 1731 Seminole. Well, thanks to Google Analytics and a week's worth of results, I now have the answer to that question. Adding a reference to 1731 Seminole in my most recent post brought eight new people to my blog via Google and the other search engines. I didn't get any new traffic by mentioning Melissa Theuriau's name, but that might have been different if I spelled her name correctly the first time. Opps!

Wondering About Melissa

Image
I use Google Analytics to give me an idea about who it is that reads this blog and how they find me. It satisfying my curiousity immensely and, in the case of the blog for my neighborhood , helps me convince certain beaucrats that they should take blogs seriously. Anyway, it turns out that when people visit this blog, a little more than half of them came from one search engine or another. Google Analytics also tells me what folks were searching for when they found me via a search engine. And that's the really interesting part. It turns out that the most common keywords that people used when they found me were 1731 Seminole , which is Jack White's former house - something that I blogged about last August , and Melissa Theuriau , the French TV reporter that I mentioned last April whose face you see to the left. I suppose if I started a rumor that Melissa Theuriau was moving to 1731 Seminole, thereby combining those two keywords into one internet search, then traffic on this b...

Sequels, Sequels, Sequels

Image
There are a slew of sequels on their way to the big screen at the moment. Spider-Man 3 makes its debut on May 4; The following week we have 28 Weeks Later , which is a sequel to the 2002 hit 28 Days Later ; After that we have Shrek the Third opening the following weekend; We then have Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End starring Keira Knightly at the end of May. Four weekends in May and everyone of them will see a movie sequel. I have to wonder: will Hollywood ever run out of movies to make sequels out of? I think it's legitimate worry because 3 of the 4 movies opening in May aren't just sequels, they're the third installment in the franchise. Very few movie franchises manage to make it past the third one. Hollywood may have to actually come up with an idea soon that's at least somewhat original. This could be good, because movies have the power to do so much more than simply entertain. For example, there has been a certain amount of a rivalry between t...
