Most Beautiful Jobs on the Internet

Image
The internet has created some interesting jobs. For example, there's actually someone at Izismile.com who got the job of creating their list of the Top 99 Most Beautiful Women of 2010 . It wasn't surprising to me that some of the beautiful women that I've blogged about before made their cut. Jessica Alba came in at number 5, for example. There were also several models from Victoria's Secret who made their list. This, also, was also incredibly not surprising. I would have also ranked Kristen Bell a lot higher than number 76, which is where the folks at Izismile.com ranked her. However,  that's just my opinion. Of course, the one aspect to lists like these that I've always found to be interesting who is not on it. I know there are a lot of beautiful women and a lot of beautiful celebrities. In fact, I'm often quite thankful for these facts. Still, there are certain omissions this list of beautiful women that simply leave me puzzled. How can any...

Hilary Duff Gets Engaged

Image
Hilary Duff got engaged to Mike Comrie of the Edmunton Oilers the other day. Photos of Mr. Comrie proposing to Ms. Duff in their home, as well as her "reaction" quickly showed up on-line. The speed with which these thing showed up make me suspect that it was set up ahead of time by one (or both) of their respective publicists.  However, at the same time, when I look at the final photo in this set - well, there's a part of me that simply stops caring about how staged it might be. The photos are available here .  Please note that the final one in this series is not safe for work.

Detroit Passes New Rules on Strip Clubs

The Detroit City Council approved a new set of rules on strip clubs in the city at the urging of Rev. Marvin Winans . All of this makes me wonder: is it time to start regulating churches in this city? Maybe we should have an ordinance that determines what a pastor can where during a service? Or how far he or she should be from the congregation at all times? Detroit passes new rules on strip clubs | The Detroit News Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Rage Within the Machine

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart has long had some of the most thought-provoking pieces on television, in my opinion.  However, they outdid themselves with one. Suddenly Popular

I made a short documentary on the Ransom Gillis House in Detroit's Brush Park neighborhood two years ago with my friend, Lee Runchey . It sat on YouTube for awhile, with hardly anyone watching it. However, in the past few weeks, my video has suddenly become at least somewhat popular with a dozen or so people checking it out every day. (I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but it is a tenfold increase from where it was when I first uploaded it.) The weirdest part is that, according to YouTube's Insight feature, my video is most popular in Belgium.  So, to everyone from Belgium who has been watching my video, I'd simply like to say thank you.

1 Out of 30

One of my friends, Valerie Richards , has decided to go on thirty dates, with thirty different guys, in thirty days. This was one of those unique situations where she mentioned an idea to a few of her friends and, almost immediately, her adventure had gone huge. She has a couple hundred people following her on Facebook; After 5 Detroit has given her the opportunity to write about her dates for a feature there ; and Her story was even featured on Channel 7 News last yesterday evening. The video from her story is available below. I write about all of this on my blog because this morning, I got to become one of her thirty dates.  In fact, I was a her very first one in this adventure. We met this morning at the R.J. Hirt, Jr. Company in Eastern Market. She suggested that we go on a walking tour of the market that was led by the folks at Feet on the Streets tours and I was game for it. Luckily, we were a few minutes early so we able to run next door to Vivio's for coffee...

Tail of the Tiger Golf Balls

Image
I have a sudden desire to golf. This is due, at least in part, to these new novelty golf balls that are adorned with images of Tiger Woods' mistresses. I can't explain why but they just seem really cool. Tail of the Tiger Golf Balls

MEETorDIE - Where Lousy Meetings Live on Forever

Image
When I worked for other, instead of running my own company, I used to hate those endless, seemingly pointless meetings that I always had to go to. Now, there is a MEETorDIE. It's a new web site that enables one to calculate just how much money is wasted on such meetings. If I were still in corporate America, I would make it mandatory for everyone to check this site for the manpower costs associated with these meetings. If the meeting wasn't worth it, and there is an eventual trend of meetings that don't, then it's definitely time for the company to make changes to how meetings are scheduled and to how often they happen. Siri - Your Virtual Personal Assistant

I'm one of those troglodytes who doesn't have either a Blackberry or an iPhone. Heck, at the moment, I don't even have a working cell phone. (I had to let it go when I took time away from work in order to finish the script for The Roswell Chronicles). It's things like the Siri app, however, that make me determined to get one soon. More details on it below. Siri - Your Virtual Personal Assistant

Facebook Jumps the Shark

Image
First, there was Friendster. But then it got lame and no one used it anymore. Then came MySpace. But it got to be too frustrating and hardly anyone uses it anymore either. Now we have Facebook, which is clearly on the verge of jumping the shark and becoming a shadow of its former self. They go through "updates" faster than a whorehouse goes through condoms. Before one even figures out how a given update actually works, they unleash yet another one for users to stumble their way through. All of which makes me wonder: what's the next social networking site? After Facebook has officially gone the way of Friendster, who will be next? Please leave your thoughts in the comments section below.

Space Shuttle Blasts Off On Last Night Launch

Image
Endeavor lifted off early this morning from Cape Canaveral. This will likely to be the last nighttime launch of a space shuttle as NASA is retiring the space shuttle at the end of this year. Her six astronauts will deliver a new room and observation deck for the International Space Station before returning in two weeks. I wish them well in their mission. Keira Knightley Banned from Porn in Australia

Image
It's a good thing that Keira Knightley's  career in mainstream Hollywood films and stage productions is going well. If she had to, she could no longer make porn flicks. At least not in Australia. The geniuses at the Australia Classification Board have decided to ban small-breasted women, such as Keira Knightley, from appearing in pornographic films and publications. They say that such images of woman with small breasts encourages pedophilia and child molestation. The full story is available here . I tried thinking of something that's actually more stupid than banning women like Keira Knightley from appearing in porn. However, I simply can't think of any such thing. And yes, before anyone bothers to ask, my main reason for writing this post was indeed to be able to include the words "Keira Knightley" and "porn" in the same sentence. I am a man of simple pleasures.

Snow

There are moments when I absolutely hate snow.  This, by the way, would include all of those times when I have to drive somewhere in the stuff. However, there are also moments when I absolutely love snow. This, by the way, would include any instance in which a woman is suddenly inspired to make a snow angel while wearing a bikini. Happy Groundhog Day

Image
I have some very good news, everyone! I saw my shadow this morning.  This means six more weeks of strippers and booze. (Yes, my version of Groundhog Day is  more interesting than the one in Pennsylvania.)

Finding My Fresh Start

I'm finally getting back into the swing of things after being away from the blogosphere most last week. It's good to be back, ladies and gentlemen. I want to share a brief taste of what I've been working on. This is the opening credits for a home improvement show that I worked on called Fresh Start with the Design Divas . My partners and I still working on getting this thing on the air somewhere.  I'll post some more later on how that is coming along.

Subscribe and Wave

I've been using Google Wave for a couple of months now. I believe it's a cool communications tool, but it's definitely one that gets better as more and more people use it. Google Wave is currently in limited preview. This means that, if you want to try it out, then you need to be invited by someone who currently uses the service. I currently have a dozen or so invitations that I can use. If you would like to be invited to use Google Wave then I simply ask that you do two things: Subscribe to my blog; and Leave a comment in this post indicating that you'd like a Google Wave invite. If I don't have you email address already, please include it in your comment. (Please feel free to enter in a way that makes things harder for spam robots to pick up, e.g. name [at] domain [dot] com.)  I will send a Google Wave invite to your email address. Also, I will delete your comment after send your invite to further minimize the potential for spammers to pick up an email ad...
