I'm reminded of what Sun-tzu wrote in The Art of War:
In war, victory should be swift. If victory is slow then men tire, morale sags. Sieges exhaust strength; protracted campaigns strain the public treasury. (Pages 9-10. Translated by John Minford.)I read Sun-tzu's writing as a cadet in the Air Force ROTC.
