I'm Feeling CALM

I would like to thank the United States Senate for making my life a little better (for once) or at least a little quieter.

The U.S. Senate recently passed the Commercial Advertising Loudness Mitigation Act (a/k/a - the CALM Act). This will prohibit television stations across the United States from airing commercials that are louder than the main program itself.

This law will not go into effect for another two years, which gives the television industry time and the various advertisers to make some changes on their end. I happen to think that it's too much of a delay, but I'll take it.

Until then, I look forward to the day when I don't have to hit the mute button on my remote every time the commercials come on.

I agree, it's too long. At least we have something to look forward to...

2 frickin' years? what a load of dung.
i see no possible reason for this. commercial producers could fix this tomorrow. the congresswoman that authored this caved in to some form of lobbying pressure is the only reason i can think of. now they have 2 years to find a way out of this. it's so stupid. most all of the time i'm either watching something recorded or behind live on my dvr. sometimes i'm multitasking. when the commercial comes on often i would hear at least parts of it out of the corner of my ear so to speak if my attention wasn't called to it but the blasting volume. soon as that happens i grab the remote and speed through the commercials. ever time. without exceptions. am i way in to minority here? i will not watch offensive commercials and often what offends me is blaring loud music or other sounds of a commercial. i love loud music. i listen to it often. when i CHOOSE to. i won't have someone force it on me in a commercial. not only that but most commentary news programs i watch regularly have loud lead ins at the start of a show and then coming back from ever segment. do they really think the need to do that because people have left the room during the commercial? how to they think these things? who do they ask?
